HVAC is what a lot of people would like to learn about, but they dont know where to get started. This is why things like this guide were put together to help people like you out. Once youre ready to tackle the subject, all you have to do is read along.

Ask for referrals when hiring someone to install your HVAC system. Someone may seem like they know what they are doing, but you cannot simply take their word for it. You should be able to call past customers to get an idea of what to expect from this particular installer.

Be sure to get every quote or estimate in written form. You have no recourse on a verbal agreement, so a written contract is a must. This will allow you to follow up if something goes wrong or you dont get what you were promised, protecting you from shady contractors.

Make sure that your contractor provides a home assessment. Not every HVAC solution is for everyone. Your home could have special needs for heating and cooling. Your contractor should do a walk around of your space to judge what is best. If they arent be sure to request one.

Be sure to check your evaporator coil drains frequently when your air conditioner is running. If this tube backs up, you can find water damage to your walls, ceilings and floors. If you end up with mold just use a solution of bleach and water to clean out the tube.

In order to cheaply cool your home, turn the temperature up. If you take a few showers a day or just drink a cold ice water, youll find that youre saving a lot of money on your utility bills by keeping the thermostat a little higher than usual in your home.

If you have fans in place to help make your HVAC more efficient, be sure that theyre turning in the right direction. They should be pushing air downwards over the people in the room to help cool their skin. If its blowing upwards, all it does is push hot air into the room.

To save money on your HVAC system, turn the air conditioning down at night and let your home warm up a bit. To keep yourself cool, use a chilling water-filled pillow to cool down your head and your whole body as a result. This combined with a fan will keep you from overheating while saving on your utility bills.

Change your air conditioner filter quarterly, or four times a year. This not only keeps the air coming into your home easier and cleaner to breathe, it takes a lot of stress off of your AC unit itself. You get to enjoy health, money savings and reduced energy use altogether at once.

If you want to ensure your air conditioner offers you great performance, keep it dry. If it is located in a dry, cool area, youll find that the efficiency goes up and the unit lasts a long time. You can even buy a water vapor cooler to cool it as it is running.

Keep your condensers free of nearby obstructions. Keep plants, fencing, even bushes back and away from the unit. Two feet is a good minimum distance it should have from anything, including walls, but the more space you give it to breathe, the better it will work and the less likely it will be to fail.

It wasnt too hard to learn about HVAC now that you can see that the tips are easy to follow. The key is just taking the time to make things work right. Just dont give up and you should be able to use the above advice to lead you to success.
